early artwork
experimented with ceramic, classical painting and drawing techniques in 1972/74. The first works in mixed media were created in 1979.
an art event organized as a work of art
In 1994, together with volonteers, local people and cultural organization and a lot of friends and artists we organized a conceptual art event in the unknown village Schriek (Flanders, region of Antwerp) titled ArtWallk (KW).
The concept was: each form of art is allowed and each artist or collector, … is welcome to participate. This way the event was growing each year (the last event was in 2001).
In the year 2001, 3000 visitors came to visit the festival in one week-end and about 300 artists were participating.
For this event we created a non-profit association with the name “the Conscience”.
philosophy
Since 2006, while using the avatar-name Dan Yapungku, mainly paid attention to themes such as migration, nature connection, freedom and recuperation, philosophical reflection, slogan language and questions of existence through varied works of arts, titles and whether or not annex explanations.
In the performances (real and virtual) mostly appears in striking fluorescent clothing without any special actions; the audience present often perceives the performance as the presence of a handyman, a local technical staff member with work in progress.
In this way also try to bring productions basic, simple, connected with the local space, and in connection/dialogue with the spectator/visitor.
specific materials
The used media, formats and materials in 2D, 3D, performance and installations are various find, residual and disposable materials – everyday utensils and products from consumer society – and are brought into public space/contemporary reality or a virtual environment, on request or unsolicited.
multidisciplinary
frequently switch between making analog and digital images: paintings, drawings, assemblages, photo (editings), installations, objects/assemblies, animations, videos and brochures.
moving
not seldom (a) work in movement literally and figuratively : movement in time, the imaginary or future space, images and shapes presented as an animated gif or video.
cv
hardly present in well-known exhibitions.
